Student Safety Updates

Student Safety Update, 2025

Since the release of the Debevoise & Plimpton report on misconduct at Sonoma Academy in 2021, we have taken meaningful and measurable steps to make Sonoma Academy a safer and more accountable school.

These include:
  • Establishing the Sonoma Academy Therapy Fund to assist our alumni and former students who experienced sexual misconduct and related violence while at SA with costs related to therapy.
  • Conducting annual boundary training for all employees, most recently in August 2025, with additional training scheduled later in 2025.
  • Establishing a Board-level Safety Committee to ensure ongoing oversight and accountability.
  • Implementing the LiveSafe platform, which enables anonymous reporting and real-time communication around concerns.
  • Engaging in annual training in policies and procedures related to reporting suspected abuse.
  • Reviewing and updating policies related to student safety.
Today, Sonoma Academy is stronger, more vigilant, and more dedicated than ever to the well-being of every student. Our work is not done, and it never will be. But we are deeply committed to working toward more fully living up to our values and building the safe and connected school that our students deserve.
