  • Basketball Regular Season Comes to a Close, NCS Playoffs Next Week

All three Sonoma Academy basketball teams ended the regular seasons last night at Roseland University Prep in Santa Rosa.

The JV boys started the night with a spirited effort that saw them come from a double-digit deficit to take a lead in the second half. Ultimately, the Knights of Roseland would rally to win the game, but it was a great final effort by the JV boys to end their season.

The Varsity girls came out strong and took a nine point lead into halftime, which ballooned to over 20 points in the second half, before winning by a final score of 52-32.

The Varsity boys had the biggest night for the Coyotes, as they upset league champion Roseland Unviersity Prep on their home court, handing the Knights their first league loss of the season with a score of 56-46.

With the wins for the varsity teams both finished in second place in league with a record of 5-3, and will now wait until Sunday to find out their first round opponent, time, and location for next week's North Coast Section Playoff tournament. Brackets will be released on the NCS website.

Congratulations and good luck to both Varsity basketball teams next week.
  • JV Boys Basketball Season Ends with a Win

The JV boys basketball team ended its season last week with a thrilling win over Upper Lake High School by a score of 46-43. With the score tied and just under one minute left in regulation, the ball was passed ahead to Gavin Galusha '22 for what appeared to be an easy lay-up. The Upper Lake defenders were closing in on him fast, so Galusha had to change his shot choice quickly, which ended up being a backwards one handed lay-up that found the bottom of the net and gave the Coyotes the lead for good. With the win the boys finish the season with an overall record of 6-7, but more importantly they gained camaraderie as a team and valuable experience for the future. Congratulations to the boys and Coach Mac on a successful season.
  • SA Basketball Teams Learning and Improving

All three SA basketball teams continue to get better in the non-league portion of their seasons, with each practice and game helping them prepare for league play beginning in mid-January.

The Varsity Boys Basketball team has lost some very competitive games early on this season, all of them against high quality opponents. The highlight for the Coyotes so far this season was this past Friday, when they went to Elsie Allen and pulled out a double digit victory against a large school opponent.

The Varsity Girls competed in the Marin Academy Tournament last weekend and finished in third place, their only loss coming to eventual champion St. Bernard's from Eureka.

The JV boys have had fewer games so far this season, but with a roster that contains only two upperclassmen, the extra practice time has been essential to get them all in sync on both ends of the floor.

This Friday night, all three teams will host Marin Academy. The JV Boys tip off at 4:30 pm, followed by the Varsity Girls at 6:00 pm and the Varsity Boys at 7:30 pm. This will be the final game for each team before starting back up again in early January.
