  • Girls Soccer Completes Memorable Season in NCS Playoffs

    Athletic Department Staff
The girls soccer team qualified for the NCS playoffs and picked up a 3-1 opening round win over Marin Catholic last Wednesday to advance to the NCS quarterfinals. The Coyotes traveled to #2 seeded Branson on Saturday where they faced the three time defending NCS champion. The Coyotes competed well and the score was tied 1-1 at the half. With almost 20 minutes left and the game still tied, Branson scored two goals in four minutes to pull away and pick up the win.

Against Marin Catholic, the Coyotes played in stormy conditions and managed to pull off the 3-1 upset victory over the higher seeded Marin Catholic team.

The Branson loss ended a memorable season for the Coyotes, in which they competed in the large school North Bay League Oak Division for the first time. After years of dominating the small school division of fall soccer, the move to the winter North Bay League and NCS Division IV was a welcomed challenge and opportunity to continue to improve.

    Great job to the Coyotes!

  • Girls Soccer Looking to NCS Playoffs

    Athletic Department Staff
The girls soccer team finishes play in the North Bay League this week and will now turn their attention to the NCS playoffs which start next week.  The Coyotes joined the North Bay League this winter and showed they could compete with the top schools in the area.
Two ties with perennial league and NCS contender Maria Carillo and a win against Analy were the highlights of league play.  In addiition, the Coyotes were competitive in every game, with six of their losses coming by one or two goals.
"It was difficult to know what to expect, given it was the first year of the newly formed league," said Athletic Director and girls soccer coach Chris Ziemer.  "We were placed in the league based upon previous years success and the girls were outstanding in every game.  Our goal in the first season was simply to compete in every game and credit to the girls for doing that as we were facing a quality team every game," added Ziemer.
The Coyotes will learn their NCS playoff destiny on Sunday, when the sixteen teams are announced.  The Coyotes are currently ranked #13, but given their strength of schedule it is possible they are seeded in the top half of the bracket.
Opening round NCS games are on Wednesday February 13th, with time, location and opponents announced on Sunday.
"It has been a memorable first year in the NBL, and we are excited about the future as well," added Ziemer.
