Fall Sports Teams Are Off to a Fast Start

The Sonoma Academy fall sports teams have all started their matches, games, and meets, and thus far, the results have been outstanding.

The varsity girls volleyball team is 6-1 overall, with four of their wins coming at the Rio Lindo Tournament, where they went undefeated and captured the tournament championship. They will play two away matches next week in NCL 2 league play, those will be at Tomales on Tuesday and at Calistoga on Friday.

The JV girls volleyball team won their first match of the season in an exciting two set victory over Credo High School. The Coyotes lost two days later in a close three set match to St. Vincent de Paul, but this year’s team is showing signs of being one of the strongest the girls JV program has seen. The girls will practice next week before their third league match at Calistoga on Friday.

The varsity boys soccer team won its first two games of the season, the first a big win over Cloverdale 5-2, and the second a lopsided victory against Rio Lindo Adventist 11-0. The Coyotes are showing early on that they are a talented and experienced group who are ready to challenge the best teams in the area. The boys will continue in non-league play with their next two games at home against St. Helena on Friday, September 6 and against Archbishop Hanna on Wednesday, September 11.

The cross country team started the season with their first meet this past Wednesday at Spring Lake. Top finishers for the Coyotes were Lucy Gott on the girls side (third overall) and Jonas Crean on the boys side (15th overall). Bert Garner and Tyler Duchynski were the top finishers for Sonoma Academy in the JV boys race. Full results for the race can be found here:
