Jon Rubenstein

Jon Rubenstein has focused his 35-year career fostering a variety of social change initiatives. For the past decade, Jon has developed and run Whispertree, a 50-bed retreat center in Mendocino County that is dedicated to supporting transformational retreats for people working at the intersection of personal, social, and environmental change.  Whispertree also demonstrates cutting-edge practices in regenerative land management, aiming to help retreat participants cultivate a deeper connection to the more-than-human world.

Before Whispertree, Jon founded Immanent Leadership, a coaching and consulting firm dedicated to supporting the transformation of top leaders in the social change sector. Jon has coached executive directors, developed community engagement strategies, and consulted on complex, large-scale change initiatives, reflecting his passion for supporting transformative change within individuals and communities.

Jon’s commitment to supporting social justice and transformational social change comes from his decade of experience in the 1990s as a community organizer working to build powerful non-partisan, multi-ethnic grassroots organizations in North Carolina and Texas. He was a lead organizer with the Industrial Areas Foundation, the oldest and largest network of faith-based community organizations in the United States.

Jon lives in Santa Rosa with his wife Karin, and twin boys Ben (`28) and Charlie (`28).
