Rylee Bowen Wins Third State Championship

Athletic Department Staff
Rylee Bowen '18 captured her third State Cross Country Championship in four years after pulling away from the lead pack to win the Division V race in Clovis.

Bowen's time of 18:17.9 was run at a 5:53.0 mile pace and ahead of Emily Perez of St. Joseph Notre Dame, who finished second in 18:24.2.

Bowen won the State Championship in her freshmen and sophomore seasons, before finishing 6th as a junior.  In the NCS meet the weekend before, Bowen finished almost 20 seconds behind Perez, so it was an impressive result in her final cross country race in a Sonoma Academy uniform.   She is only the fifth girl in state history to win three titles in four years.

Bowen has committed to Duke University, where she will compete in both cross country and track & field.  She accepted the athletic scholarship to Duke University after being heavily recruited from top universities across the country.
