Staffulty Updates
Welcome to our newest staffulty member, Jasmine Wingard, our Student Activities Coordinator. In this new part-time role. Jasmine will be supporting Dean of Student Life Darren Duarte in reimagining and coordinating all of our Student Life activities, including SLC, community meetings, retreats, and student events. She brings a wonderful combination of experience of event planning, recreation program management, and classroom experience. As an added bonus, she is well versed in creating opportunities for online student engagement, as she spent the eventful spring semester teaching Casa Grande. She has a B.S. in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration from SFSU, and is currently pursuing her M.A. in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning at SSU.
Jasmine says, “I really love all of the opportunities and support SA offers to its students, and think it’s just an incredible community to be a part of. This position truly aligns my previous work experience, education and passion for working with and supporting high school students.”
Suzanna Wash will be taking over Colin’s Humanities II courses for the first quarter of the year, while Colin is on family leave. She has been teaching English, History, and French for over 25 years, including Sonoma Academy’s Cultures & Context classes for our English Language Learner (ELL) students.
In addition to an undergraduate degree in French and Linguistics from UCLA, Suzanna holds a doctoral degree in Teacher Leadership. Suzanna’s passion for culture and language acquisition has fed her longtime love for international education. She has traveled with students to Europe, taught English in Japan, and has taught International students from around the world in the American Language Institute at Sonoma State University.
Suzanna is perfectly poised to teach Colin’s first 12 weeks of his Humanities II sections. Not only is the focus area Japan, an area of expertise for Suzanna, but her background with ELL students and immigration will help inform the unit on Early 20th C immigration. We know our students will relish Suzanna’s warmth and good humor, as well as her considerable experience with remote learning.
Congratulations to STEM teacher Caitlin Duffy and her husband Tim on their new addition: baby Margaret, born on August 3. Mom and baby are doing well!
