Speech Captains Lead by Example

by Brandon Spars, Humanities Teacher & Speech Head Coach
The weekend of November 19 found seven members of the speech team at Santa Clara University, where one of the largest tournaments ever recorded was held. There were 1700 entries, more than twice the size of a standard league tournament.

Each event found more than seventy entries, but that did not stop Kyle Duchynski '17 and Elizabeth Kolling '17 from breaking to semis... and then finals. Elizabeth walked away with a third place trophy in Dramatic Interpretation. She continues her amazing winning streak.

We want to thank Nobby Clark for judging all weekend as well as shuttling students between the hotel and the university campus. Also, a big thanks to Irma Spars who served as our female chaperone for the second invitational in a row!

The speech team would also like to thank Rich and Shawn McKay who judged at the last league tournament, which was held last October.

This weekend we head to Sonoma Valley High School for the second league tournament. Expect good things!
