McNeely Artist Residency at Sonoma Academy
Please note that this is a studio residency only; housing is not included, although we will do our best to find a place to stay for artists who reside outside the Bay Area. Artists are responsible for finding their own housing and transportation. Proof of a Covid Vaccination is necessary.
Mission: The McNeely Studio Residency at Sonoma Academy is for established artists who have an interest and experience teaching workshops, lecturing and or working on community based art projects. Projects may consist of a myriad of different approaches.
The artist will have an exhibit that lasts one or two months to be determined after being selected.
The artist must engage with the school community of students, faculty & staff, parents and alumni. This may take the form of a series of workshops, lectures and or a community based art project which will become part of the school's fabric and dedication to the arts.
Working with the program director, Hillary Younglove, the artist will submit a written proposal outlining how they intend to engage with the community.
Potential meet & greet or casual gathering with the donors, Rosemary and Kevin McNeely
Applications are reviewed throughout the year.
Single artists or artist teams may apply.
Send links to a website, digital folder or Instagram account. Do not send individual image files.
The ideal applicant is an artist who believes in education and enjoys working and collaborating with a community to create a work of art.
We are particularly interested in artists who bring different life experiences and perspectives to our campus.
There is a financial stipend. If any work sells during the exhibit, the artist gets 100% of the sales and handles all the sales. The artist is responsible for hanging and taking down the show, although, if needed or desired the artist can ask for help from an art class with the installation.
