Hannah and Gibran: the champs! All our (debate) ducks in a row at the MLK tournament.

SA Wins Varsity Policy Division at MLK Invitational

Laila
Over the Martin Luther King Jr weekend, SA Debate attended a special MLK Inviational at James Logan High School in Union City. This long-standing tournament (Laila even competed at this tournament as a high school debater) added a new division this year focussed on national circuit style policy debate (faster paced with more expert judging). Gibran Hassan '19 and Hannah Nabavi '20 took the top prize, winning the whole tournament!  Gibran and Hannah earned a winning record in the prelim debates and then won their Quarterfinal debate, Semifinal debate and ultimately the Final round as well.

Sarah Shi '19 and Emily Ibanez-Arroyo '19 also competed in the circuit division but did not advance out of the prelim debates. And, eight first year debaters braved their first "Open" tournament competing against mostly juniors and seniors from other schools.  Shout out to those brave freshmen: Maya Homicz, Kenzie Stewart, Luna Michelis, Miron English, Ana May Harb, Max Brinegar, Zoe Price, and Adri Kornfein.
