Sonoma Academy Basketball Teams Sweep at Rincon Valley Christian

All four Sonoma Academy basketball teams won on Tuesday night at Rincon Valley Christian, the first time in the history of the basketball program that feat has been accomplished. The night of games started with the JV girls winning by a score of 31-13, which was followed by the JV boys coming from behind to pull out a three point victory over the host Eagles. For the JV girls it was their first league game, while the JV boys picked up their second league win and are currently undefeated in the NCL 2.

The varsity girls played the third game of the night and set the tone immediately on the defensive end of the court, forcing Rincon Valley Christian into 28 turnovers and winning by a score of 30-18. The Sonoma Academy girls remain undefeated on the season at 11-0 overall, and are now just two wins shy of matching the school record for most consecutive wins to start the season. The Press Democrat had a nice write-up in their small school basketball preview last week and put the girls undefeated record into context by stating "Add up all the high school basketball teams in the Redwood Empire right now, from the biggest campuses to the tiniest outposts, boys and girls, and you get 81 teams. That’s 81 squads dribbling, running, shooting and trying like heck to win every time out. And just one of them remains undefeated as we dive into to league play." The varsity boys picked up their first league win of the season on Tuesday winning by a score of 56-39. The boys moved to 1-1 in NCL 2 play by using a combination of strong post play, active defense, and high energy to pick up their first ever regular season league win against Rincon Valley Christian. Jack Greenberg '16 and Caleb Richards '16 led the way in the scoring column putting up 18 and 13 points respectively.

Next up all four teams will travel to Petaluma on Friday as they visit St. Vincent de Paul. The first game tips with the JV girls at 3:30 pm, followed by the JV boys at 5pm, varsity girls at 6:30 pm, and the varsity boys wrapping up the night at 8 pm. Next week, the Coyotes will be back in action on campus with homes games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
