SA Qualifies One Debate Team for State

by Brandon Spars, Head Coach Speech & Debate
Jack Greenberg and Sierra Maciorowski, both missing their regular partners, combined to make a super team. It took a round or two to get used to one another as debate partners, especially since they normally both play the second speaker role, but after two rounds they got into a groove. One judge approached me in the judging room and told me that Greenberg should be on television! The combination of Jack's humor and Sierra's stealthy attacks was devastating to the opposing teams. They ripped through six rounds of debate and found themselves with one of the cherished bids at a state title.
Also of note were Connor Duncan and Aris Saxena. This young team fought their way into the final round and gained the position of alternate. These guys are truly destined for great things over the next two years.

Our other two teams, Squid Tamar-Mattis and Karishma Bottari, and Caleb Kornfein and Audrey von Raesfeld, each went two and two in this very tough field. It was a great finish to regular season competition.

The qualifying tournament took place both Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14 at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon.

The debate team wants to thank Justin Kornfein, Joe Maciorowski, Stephen von Raesfeld, and Pratek Saxena for judging this past weekend.
