I currently attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and I'm majoring in Drama with a concentration in Musical Theater. I'm also getting a minor in Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology, which is a cross-school minor so I take classes in NYU's business school as well."
The musical theater program is quite intensive and takes up a lot of time, but in my free time I'm working on starting a theater company. Unmasked Theatre Company was founded last year, and has put on two shows so far in off-broadway theaters, with a third show coming up this February. Unmasked's mission is to use elements of musical theater to create social change. The issue we are working on right now and for the foreseeable future is the way mental illness is perceived and addressed in our society. We believe the stigma around mental illness is extremely detrimental to anyone working through a mental illness and to society's discussion of overall mental health. We hope to reach a mainstream audience through shattering the preconceived notions surrounding mental illness, while unmasking the inner battles that occur beneath the surface. I feel my time at SA helped me learn to handle multiple activities and assignments at a time, which I really appreciate now in college. I also loved how open and inclusive SA's theater program is, this really encouraged me to get involved and explore what ended up being my passion. I realized recently that the skills I developed hosting Evening Of The Arts senior year have helped immensely in the work I am now doing with my theater company. This experience gave me the basics of how to put together a show, how to organize a cast, and how to communicate with collaborators, all of which are huge parts of my current work.
