  • Historic Varsity Boys Basketball Season Comes to an End

    Athletic Department Staff
The varsity boys basketball team saw their historic season come to an end this past Saturday night in a hard-fought second round North Coast Section playoff game at Clear Lake High School. The Coyotes finished the season with the most wins for any varsity boys basketball team in a single season (21), and they also won the program's first ever Division 5 NCS playoff game.

The 21st win and NCS playoff victory came last Wednesday night as the varsity boys upset the six seeded Cougars from College Prep of Oakland. Granted the home game becuase of the SA boys league champion designation, the Coyotes came out motivated to make boys basketball history, and with their hot shooting from the floor (12 of 24 from the three point line) there was never any doubt who would come out on top. With the 78-63 victory on Wednesday, the boys then traveled to Clear Lake on Saturday night where they were within single digits for most of the game, before the Cardinals pulled away for a 16-point victory and ended the Coyotes season. Congratulations to the varsity boys players and coaches on a remarkable and memorable season.

  • Varsity Boys Basketball Wins league Title; Basketball Seniors Honored on Tuesday

    Athletic Department Staff
The varsity boys basketball team clinched its second league title in three years last week with a 60-44 victory over St. Vincent de Paul. The boys have followed up that win with two more this week, which gives them a twelve game win streak with just one regular season game left to play. The boys record is now 19-4, and with one more win on Thursday at Roseland Collegiate Prep, they can tie the boys basketball school record for wins in a season (20).
This past Tuesday night was senior night for the basketball teams, and the three boys basketball seniors (Thomas Zelazny, Chance Colbert, Marco Della Santina) were honored alongside the lone varsity girls senior (Grace Rubardt). The families of each player joined them on the court as the school and athletic department thanked all of them for their support of each other and Sonoma Academy. The varsity boys then went on to beat Calistoga, 68-42.
This Sunday the Coyotes will find out their seeding for the North Coast Section torunament that begins with a first round game on Wednesday, and it is likely that the varsity boys could secure a home game. Full details and brackets for the tournament can be found at maxpreps.com. Good luck to the boys and coaches as they end their regular season and begin a push into the playoffs.
