Coyotes Sports in Full Swing

The past few weeks have been some of the busiest in SA sports history with student-athletes and teams that traditionally play across the fall, winter and spring all competing at the same time. In addition, many of the teams are playing against larger schools as many of the smaller schools aren’t competing in every sport.  t has been exciting and fun to see the Coyotes back in uniform!

Track & Field competed at the St Helena meet where they joined Technology, Calistoga and host St Helena.  After competing at Cloverdale the week before, it was another good chance for the Coyotes to compete.  Despite the heat, the SA athletes competed well across a variety of events. View the complete list of results here.

Girls Soccer remains undefeated on the season. After knocking off El Molino and Analy to start the season, the Coyotes travelled to Ukiah and picked up a 2-1 road win before beating Healdsburg 7-0 at SA. On Thursday, they beat Piner 8-0 Thursday. The Coyotes have four games remaining, three of which are at SA.

Boys Soccer has been competitive against larger schools, as most of the smaller schools in the area aren’t competing in soccer. The Coyotes lost to Maria Carillo 2-1 in a closely contested game before losing to Analy 4-1 at SA. Against Analy, the Coyotes led until the 65th minute when Analy tied the game before scoring three goals in the final five minutes. On Wednesday, the Boys beat Credo 5-0.

Baseball is 2-2 on the season after a dramatic come-from-behind walk-off win against Upper Lake. The Coyotes split with Tech and Credo last week and trailed 6-3 against Upper Lake heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. The Coyotes rallied to tie the game and won in dramatic fashion when Joel Zimmer '23 laid down a bunt that drove in the winning run.

Boys Lacrosse features just one senior and is one of the youngest teams in program history. As none of the smaller schools in our area offer lacrosse, the Coyotes have been matched up with larger schools in every game. Although they picked up losses against Petaluma, Vintage and Cardinal Newman, they continue to work hard and gain experience for the future and look forward to their final three matches of the season.

Girls Lacrosse also has a schedule loaded with larger school teams. After opening their season with an exciting 10-7 win over Windsor, the Coyotes fell to Newman this week. They traveled to Rancho Cotati on Thursday and won 11-5. They are looking to finish the season strong over the next few weeks as they continue to compete in the large school Vine Valley Athletic League.

Tennis has continued their dominance in the CMC South despite splitting the roster into two groups due to restrictions on the court space during Covid. Both groups have gone undefeated in team matches, picking up two wins against Credo and Calistoga and one win earlier this week against Victory. The Coyotes have rotated singles and doubles players based upon the matchups, but have consistently shown their depth and experience while also having some newer players gain match experience.
