Schools can be the best incubators for unbridled inventiveness. Practice doesn't make perfect: exploration makes explorers. At Sonoma Academy, we believe in getting our students ready to think outside the notebook. We create a culture of design-minded thinking to inspire them to believe in the power of their solutions.
The Janet Durgin Guild & Commons, opened in the 2017-2018 school year, has added key academic, social, and cultural spaces that support the overall mission of the school. The new building includes a dining hall, a commercial kitchen, a teaching kitchen, and maker's studio classrooms with space for electronics and robotics, wood and metal fabrication, and digital media creation, as well as student services offices and meeting spaces.
Eventually, the building will also house a performing arts theater with 450 seats and two music classrooms,
The Guild & Commons is LEED Platinum certified and net-zero energy efficient, with a living roof, waste water recycling, and other key sustainability features.
