Sonoma Academy Annual Fund October 1, 2018 -- June 30, 2019

The Sonoma Academy Annual Fund is budgeted financial support for our day-to-day operations, including faculty salaries, new curriculum, financial aid, facilities, classroom materials, and more. We raise, receive, and spend all Annual Fund revenue in the current school year.

Sonoma Academy is a high school dedicated to redefining education for a new era and making it accessible to motivated students from diverse backgrounds. We offer college-bound North Bay students a rich, challenging, multifaceted program taught by extraordinary teachers who encourage deep thinking through academic rigor; creativity through mathematics, engineering, science, and the arts; and personal responsibility as community members. Nearly 50% of our students receive financial assistance with their tuition. Your Annual Fund contribution directly impacts all students and teachers every day.

We request 100% participation in the Annual Fund by trustees, faculty, staff, and current families. We actively solicit and depend on generous contributions from grandparents, alumni parents, former trustees, alumni, and friends of the school.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Are there other funding sources outside the school community?

Yes, and this is where your participation speaks volumes. One of the first questions asked by outside donors and foundations is what percentage of our current parents participates in the annual fund. Achieving as close to 100% participation as we possibly can is one of the most powerful metrics we can report. All sizes of gifts carry the same weight in terms of participation and we are proud of the economic diversity our wide range of gifts represents. We cannot achieve 100% without a gift from every family.

  • Can I make a larger annual gift by paying it in installments?

Absolutely! You may make a gift and pledge your installment dates on the website allowing us to charge your credit card on the specified dates; or you may make a pledge on your remittance envelope, enclose what you would like to give now, and tell us how and when you plan to make additional installments, all by June 30, (within our current fiscal year). You also may call the Annual Fund Office to discuss arrangements for your gift with Margaux Hardy at (707) 636-2466.

  • What are matching gifts?

Matching gifts are fantastic ways to stretch your Sonoma Academy Annual Fund gift to twice (and sometimes thrice). Some call it “free money.” Whatever you call it, if you have access to it through your employer or former employer (for retirees) it is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for Sonoma Academy. Many companies will match the charitable contributions of their employees and retirees. To have your gift matched, contact your company’s human resources department to inquire about the program, complete any forms they require, and send along to Sonoma Academy with your gift. For a list of companies that offer matching gift programs or if you need help with the paperwork, please contact Margaux Hardy, Annual Fund Manager, at (707) 636-2466. Click here to find a partial list of companies that offer matching funds programs.
  • How are annual fund dollars used?

Virtually no part of the school is untouched by your annual fund gift. Program development, faculty salaries, counseling, field trips, class retreats, intersession, financial aid, library resources, science equipment, art supplies, drama and music productions, on-campus speakers, up-to-date technology, athletic equipment and much more rely on annual giving. Because the school uses your annual fund gifts in so many ways, it is most helpful to give an unrestricted gift which allows us the flexibility to meet immediate needs and take advantage of opportunities as they arise. We will always steward your gift to its highest and best use for the school.
  • What size gift should I make, and when should I make it?

We ask you to consider stretching to make as generous a gift as is manageable for your family, as early in the school year as possible. We are happy to accommodate a pledge commitment before December 31st to be paid in installments that will be completed by June 30, the end of our fiscal year. We are proud to have a diverse population at SA, and therefore the gifts we receive range widely in size. We simply ask that all families stand together by participating at a level that feels appropriate.

  • Do you accept gifts of stock/securities in the annual fund?

    Of course!

You will need our Federal Tax ID #: 94-3343174.

If you are donating shares of stock that have no restrictions attached to their sale, please email Ashley Wolfe for the necessary Sonoma Academy account information to complete an online transfer of stock.

Before or at the time of the transfer, please contact, or have your broker contact Ashley by phone or email with the following information:
    • the donor name
    • the number of shares
    • the name of the stock being donated
This step is important because when stock arrives in the account, the name of the donor is not included.

For tax purposes, the value of your donation is calculated using the closing price of the stock on the day the stock is transferred. The school will sell the stock as soon as it is posted to the account.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact Margaux Hardy, Annual Fund Manager, at (707) 636-2466, or by email.
