When Amanda was being interviewed to teach at Sonoma Academy, she said, “Community is really at the heart of all I do.” The hiring committee knew then that they had found a perfect fit for us. It’s no wonder that Amanda says her favorite part of the day is directing the choir, which has grown from a handful of singers to a full ensemble of almost fifty student and staffulty participants. It has become a true community gathering place with Amanda at the helm.

Amanda holds a teaching credential in music education at San Jose State. Before coming to Sonoma Academy, she was the director of the instrumental program at the Woodside Priory School in the South Bay. When asked what sets our school apart, Amanda says, “Sonoma Academy has such a rich culture of curiosity.” She also appreciates the commitment to excellence she sees in her classroom, and has created a music honor society, Tri-M, to serve the many serious and dedicated musicians in our student body.

After making music with students all day, Amanda likes to unwind by cooking vegan food, playing volleyball, reading, and spending time with loved ones. She is a proud auntie and cat owner, and when asked for a fact that others would find surprising, she says, “I rarely listen to music in the car!”
Sonoma Academy has such a rich culture of curiosity.
