Basketball is in Kevin's blood. Growing up in Sacramento, Kevin was always on the court. He played for his large public high school, and for Sonoma State University as a college student. Kevin even went on to work as an assistant coach for the SSU basketball team for a couple of seasons. He also played professional basketball for one season in Vienna, Austria!

But after playing year-round basketball for sixteen years and coaching for two years, Kevin felt ready for a change. That is, until he got a call from an old friend who used to coach the Sonoma Academy girls basketball team, asking him to be the assistant coach. At first, Kevin says, “I was a little hesitant to accept the offer. I had been coaching college and wasn’t sure that it made sense to coach high school.” But after visiting our brand new campus back in 2008 and meeting with Chris Ziemer, Kevin realized that this was no ordinary high school. “I loved the campus and the atmosphere,” he says, “and I have loved it more and more each year."

Kevin has become an important part of our community and sports program. As the Associate Director of Athletics and Physical Education, he manages and administers all the sports and transportation for student athletes, while still finding time to coach the girls basketball team. His favorite part of his work day is walking into the Commons and getting to eat good food with his coworkers. “The newer students don't know the struggle before the G&C opened, when people relied on vending machines and occasional food trucks for lunch!”

When asked what sets us apart from other schools, Kevin says, “It’s the people. Not only all the amazing staff and faculty, but the students, as well. There are some absolutely fantastic students that come through here, and I feel lucky to get a chance to work with them.” For many student athletes, Kevin is the guy with the answers, and he is always willing to help.
