New Campus

Sonoma Academy has broken ground on construction of a new campus designed for just over 300 students. The campus will consist of a main classroom building (with 17 classrooms/labs), library and adjacent exhibition space, gymnasium (with locker rooms, training rooms and dance studio and two additional classrooms), student lounge, soccer/lacrosse playing fields, outdoor amphitheater, visual arts center, technology/digital arts center, Black Box Theater, administrative offices and conference room and central plaza.

The campus design incorporates predominately two-story classroom buildings and library around central pedestrian plazas and open spaces. The core of the campus contains larger buildings housing the gymnasium and theater functions. Design and placement of the buildings follows the site’s natural topography, allowing the larger buildings to be “benched” into the land mass and minimizing their apparent size from off-site views. The architectural theme reflects the County’s agrarian character.

  • Visualize the Future!

As the weeks progress the buildings at the construction site continue to take shape. If you’ve been by lately you might have noticed the roof going on the black box theatre, or the delivery of stone for the facade. Can you visualize the sports field with some of the work that’s been done? It’s fun, exciting and moving all at the same time to go out and experience the changes that are happening there. It’s not all just work on the exterior that’s taking place at the new campus. It’s that time in the project where choices for interior finishes are being made. Cabinets, counter tops, tile, carpeting and paint. All these decisions and more will make up the way our new campus looks. Hopefully by now you’ve had a chance to view the video of the new campus and have a great idea of what the exterior will look like. Many of the decisions currently being made will shape the way students, faculty and staff experience the campus on a daily basis. So take a ride out to Taylor Mountain and visualize! I promise it will be a moving experience.
