Diversity and SA's Mission
Read MoreOur mission statement reflects the understanding that students at Sonoma Academy live in a world where they must know not only who they are, but also how to interface ethically, compassionately and respectfully with others. Our mission also recognizes that to ready students for success in the 21st century, they must know how to adapt to new situations, to learn and relearn, and to think critically. To be committed to the school’s mission is to be committed to issues of diversity and equity.

Group Attends Uncensored Day at Marin Academy
Stacy Cohen
On Saturday March 15, three senior students, humanities teacher Will Grant and I went to Marin Academy’s Uncensored Day of Diversity. This completely student-run day of speakers, presentations, workshops and forums was amazing. We had no idea what to expect, and what we were met with was a day of really digging down into topics of racism, classism, and other issues people face everyday. Students from all over the Bay Area met, discussed, and kept the day ‘uncensored’ to say what was on their minds. We came away with inspiration to keep the work of diversity at the forefront of our work at SA to understand differences, find common ground, and continue to build bridges across all people. Our students felt the day was very worthwhile and we plan to bring a larger group next year.
