  • Ziemer Named All-Empire Coach of the Year

Our own Chris Ziemer was recognized in the Press Democrat's All-Empire Awards as one of three Coaches of the Year! They wrote: Considered one of the best soccer coaches in the Empire, Ziemer directed the Coyotes to an NCS Class A Championship last season, one year after his team also reached the championship game. Ziemer has coached soccer at Sonoma Academy for six years, and is also the school's athletic director. He also coached Ursuline to a NCS 3A title. Ziemer, who has also been director of coaching for Santa Rosa United, said he enjoys the excitement around a season of high school soccer and watching the improvement and progression of his players. "It's fun at the high school level to take players and give them an experience to remember."

  • SA Athletes Compete at Meet of Champions

The track and field program, in just it's first full season of competition, quickly showed that we have some outstanding track and field athletes at SA. On Friday May 23rd and Saturday May 24th, Grace Hafner and Ryley Johnson competed at the Meet of Champions at Cal Berkeley. The meet featured many of the finest athletes from both large and small schools from the Oregon border to the East Bay. Hafner competed in the 1600m, finishing with a time of 5:34.87. Johnson, competed in the long jump and finished with a jump of 16-03.25. Although neither athlete advanced to the State Meet which is awarded to the top four in each event, they showed that Sonoma Academy has a bright future in track and field and our athletes are capable of competing at the highest level.
