Dan Hansen '08 and humanities teacher Brandon Spars were selected to give the student and faculty addresses, and they both were tremendous. Copies of their speeches follow, if you would like to read them.

  • Heather Littlefield Recognized in National Arts Competition

Heather Littlefield, Class of 2010, earned national recognition in the The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. More than 100,000 works are submitted to 76 regional programs each year. Heather is among only 1,000 who earned either a Silver or Gold Award, and she won a Gold Award in the category of design/graphics for “Ophelia.” Many of you will recall seeing this artwork, as it was on the poster for SA's production of Hamlet. National award recipients are celebrated in a ceremony at Carnegie Hall, a national exhibition of selected works, and are invited to attend a series of workshops led by professional artists, writers, and creative industry leaders in New York City. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Program is celebrating its 85th anniversary.

  • SA and Leadership Institute Share Environmental Award

At the 32nd annual Environmental Awards Dinner on March 29, The Sonoma County Conservation Council and the Sierra Club Sonoma Group awarded the Outstanding Environmental Education Program/Project to “Leadership Training for a Sustainable Future and Sonoma Academy Youth Program,” led by Suzi O’Rear, Program Director at the Leadership Institute, and SA math-science teachers Sam Horton, Mike Peller and David Vaughn. The program recognized is the one being implemented with sophomores this year during CONNECTIONS. Initiated in 2006, this award is granted to programs and projects that are recognized by the SCCC as having used special innovation and insight to teach students, young and old, about the environment.
