College Counseling
Everything we do here – in one way or another – prepares you for college (and for life).
During your freshman and sophomore years, we help you develop your interests, talents, academic skills and leadership abilities. This self-discovery – and self-mastery -- is exciting. It also lays the foundation for you to apply to the colleges of your choice.
Individualized college counseling.
College planning starts in earnest at the end of your sophomore year. Beginning in the late Spring, you and your parents will meet regularly, one on one, with our college counselor to do course planning and to look to the future..
You’ll get lots of individual attention. Our student to college counselor ratio is 45:1. At the average public high school, it’s 315:1. At the average private school, it’s 241:1.
A wealth of college planning resources.
In your junior year, you’ll take a comprehensive course that will show you all your college options and help you compose a list of prospective colleges that makes sense. You’ll meet representatives from over 60 colleges who visit our campus. And you’ll use your provided laptop to access our interactive website that will help you keep track of every piece of the application process. These are just a few of the college planning resources available to you.
The result? You’ll feel confident about your choices because you are applying to a list of colleges for the right reasons. And you’ll have a strategic plan to help you gain admission to them.
A greater chance of success.
We can’t predict your future, but we can tell you this. After several years here, you’ll be college ready and college application ready. You will have found your passion and been inspired by great teachers. Colleges are looking for students who possess intellectual vitality and who have made a difference. At Sonoma Academy, we call you to do these things..
