Intersession

Have you ever wanted to survey Mayan culture from atop an ancient Mayan pyramid? Write a novel in nine days? Live and work in a remote hill-tribe village in Thailand? Learn winter ecology while snow camping in the Sierras? Practice your French in a Parisian cafe? Cook with some of Sonoma County’s most acclaimed chefs?

You’ll love our January Intersession.

Intersession gives you a fascinating, hands-on immersion into a single subject. It’s a favorite time for everyone here.

An exciting choice of studies – here and abroad.

Each year, we offer 10 or more Intersession courses [link to list of courses] – both local and international – in the arts, modern languages, performing arts, humanities, science and English. Courses are taught —and study trips led—by Sonoma Academy teachers and, occasionally, guests.

Classes meet for over seven hours each day and require homework. (Course time during travel-service programs varies.) You typically must complete a final project and are graded on a qualitative, as opposed to quantitative, scale.

The most difficult thing about Intersession? Deciding which Intersession course to take!

I filmed and edited an entire movie during Intersession. It made me so happy that I’ve gone on to create more movies on my own.”
